How to Enable Hidden Administrator Account in Windows 7 ?   Leave a comment

Windows 7 has resemblance to its predecessor, Windows Vista, in many respects. Speaking of its security, the UAC is one of useful features that has mixed up reactions from Windows users when it was first introduced in Windows Vista. You can turn this off if you work on administrator account in Windows 7 but the administrator account is no where to be seen because it is not activated by default. This post will show you how to activate the account.

Please note before proceeding with the following steps, you don’t have actually to activate this account at all unless you need the administrator account for troubleshooting your Windows 7.

Basically there are 2 ways in order to activate the account:

a) Command Prompt
b) Local Security Policy

1. Command Prompt

First you need to run Command Prompt as an administrator. You can do that by right clicking on the command prompt in the program list and choose “Run as administrator”.

After that you only need to enter the simple command below to activate it.

net user administrator /active:yes

You can also specify your password for this particular account by using the following command

Net user administrator password

where you can replace password with your own password. You can see the account immediately after you logoff your Windows 7. In order to deactivate it, you can use the command below

net user administrator /active:no

This will effectively turn off the administrator account.

2. Local Security Policy

Another way of activating the administrator account in Windows 7 is via Local Security Policy. Type secpol.msc in the search bar and hit enter. After the Local Security Policy pops up, navigate to Local Policies-> Security Options where you can see an entry that reads Accounts: Administrator account. Double click the entry to enable it.

Shutdown, Reboot or Log Off Computer at specified Time Automatically !   Leave a comment

There are times when you wish that the computer you are working on, gets shut down at some specified time or after certain number of hours. Consider a situation, you aredownloading a movie and you wish to sleep but you want that the computer gets shut down automatically after 3 hours, what shall you do?

Windows have no feature using which we can schedule the shutdown, reboot or the log off but here is a tool that I came across that does this for you. The tool is called “Automatically Shut Down, Reboot or Logoff Computer At Certain Time Software” and as the name suggests, it can shut down, restart or log off the system either at specified time or after certain number of hours.

Using this tool you can set the date/time when you want your machine to shutdown orrestart or just set after how many hours it can shutdown or log off automatically. You need to download and install the tool before being able to use it.

It is a free tool and sits in the taskbar and also doesn’t start itself at the boot, so you will have to run it when you wish to shut or reboot the system automatically.

How to Check If Your Antivirus Is Working ?   Leave a comment

How to Check If Your Antivirus Is Working?

Hi users, here is a common method to determine that if your antivirus program is working properly or not. I think you may know it already, but for the beginner (noobs) this can be informative.

* Open Notepad and copy the Code given below..

   X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

* And save file as .com extension …..

    * After some seconds saving this file, your Anti-Virus should come with the message that this file is infected with virus asking permission for its deletion/clean.

* This file is secure and it’s not going to infect your computer in whatever way. It is a standard text developed by the European Institute for Computer Anti-virus Research (EICAR). Every Anti-Virus is programmed to load this file as a virus.

* If your Anti-Virus will not hack this file as a virus, a program will appear as DOS window with this text EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE.

* If this happens then you should probably find some other Anti-Virus up to date. It means that your PC might already being infected from viruses and your current Anti-Virus does not recognize them.

Enjoy…….
